Geekcorps in VIA Arena

Writer Fiona Gatt met with Geekcorps Director Wayan Vota last month at two conferences, Computex and VTF 2006. After their conversation, she wrote a long, in-depth article about Geekcorps for VIA Arena, a forum associated with Geekcorps technology partner VIA Technologies.
Gatt’s article covers such diverse topics as IESC’s founding by David Rockefeller in the 1960s, Wayan’s thoughts on the race to produce cheap laptops and provide one laptop per child, Geekcorps Mali work in remote Bourem Inaly, and the new Geekcorps Mali pilot Cybertigi.
The mantra of Geekcorps is sustainability. The idea is for knowledge and skills transfer. What ever projects Geekcorps starts, when Geekcorps leaves, the project must be self sufficient.
Papou Coulibaly is young boutique owner in Ouélessébougou. Previously, Geekcorps partnered with Papou to create a Cybertigi - an Internet access point for the local community via a wireless link to a Community Information & Learning Center (CLIC).
