21 February 2007 in News, AIM-IT by Geekcorps

Cisco LogoIESC Geekcorps’ Lebanese ICT Academy program, called PICTA, is a cooperative effort between the Professional Computer Association of Lebanon (PCA), IESC Geekcorps, IJMA3, Mercy Corps, Audi Bank, Microsoft, Amcham, Intel, and now Cisco. Cisco recently awarded IESC Geekcorps with an in-kind donation of much needed equipment required to establish Internet connectivity for the PICTA Centers.

PICTA aims to mobilize ICT skills as a means for the Lebanese to recover from their country’s recent devastation by establishing 10 PICTA centers that will be set up throughout southern Lebanon. These PICTA centers will:

  • provide affordable access to the Internet in rural areas by connecting ICT training centers to the Internet, and
  • provide ICT training to residents in rural areas in Lebanon.

PICTA targets those most in need—women and children— and in addition those most able to have a broad and sustainable impact—school teachers. The program was launched in September 2006.
