Geekcorps Advises the AVOIR Network

AVOIRIESC Geekcorps Director Wayan Vota is participating in an AVOIR strategy meeting in Nairobi Kenya this week. He is following up on previous Geekcorps volunteer engagements with the African Virtual Open Initiatives and Resources (AVOIR).

Ryan Whitney, Adrian “Open Source Guy” Woodhead, and Jessie Bhangoo offered technical assistance in software development, deployment, and support to the Free Software Innovation Unit of the University of Western Cape.

moulin, the Geekcorps answer to distributing the Wikipedia offline, is a nominee in TechSoup’s NetSquared Project Innovation Fund Award, which seeks twenty innovative projects that utilize social web technology to create societal impact. The top twenty vote getters will receive an all-expense paid trip to the NetSquared Conference in San Jose, CA May 29-30, 2007, and have a chance to win cash and other resources from the NetSquared Innovation Fund.

The Other CMMI for Development at SEPG 2007

In the IESC Geekcorps program, Accessing International Markets thru Information Technology (AIM-IT), CMMI is being applied as a differentiator, an international seal of operational process quality for Lebanese IT companies, increasing the ability of the IT industry to be a driver of the Lebanese economy.
